15-Love: FIU Women’s Tennis Defeats Temple, 4-0, for 15th-Straight Win

TAMPA, Florida (March 25, 2017) – The FIU women's tennis team (17-1) defeated Temple, 4-0, for the team's 15th-straight victory on Saturday, March 24, from the USF Varsity Tennis Courts in Tampa, Florida. 
 
The Panthers, ranked No. 30 in the latest Oracle/ITA ranking, extended their winning streak with the team's 11th shutout of the season. The 15-game winning streak for FIU is tied for the third-longest winning streak in school history and is the longest since the 2001 season (18-straight).
 
Wins in doubles action by Ulyana Grib and Maryna Veksler (6-1 over Alina Abdurakhimova and Anais Nussayme) and Mina Markovic and Gabriela Ferreira (6-0 over Mariana Bedon and Yana Khon) gave FIU a 1-0 lead.  
 
Three-straight singles wins by the Panthers resulted in the team's 7-1 win away from the FIU Tennis Courts this season. Andrea Lazaro (No. 41 in the latest Oracle/ITA Individual Rankings) defeated Abdurakhimova, 6-2, 6-1, for her 19th win of the season. Veksler claimed win No. 20 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Monet Stuckey-Willis and Grib wrapped up the scoring with her 20th win of the season, topping Galina Chernykh, 6-0, 6-1.
 
FIU will return home to host UCF in the team's final home match of the season on Saturday, April 1. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
