MIAMI (March 25, 2017) – The FIU men's and women's track and field teams recorded five top-three finishes on Saturday at the University of Miami's Hurricane Collegiate Invitational held at Cobb Stadium in Coral Gables.
On the women's side, sophomore
Clarissa Cutliff logged her second-straight first-place finish taking the top spot in the high jump with a height of 1.80m. Cutliff also won the same event at the Hurricane Invitational last weekend with the same mark. Fellow classmate
Kenflore Atilus took third, jumping 1.70m.
In the discus, freshman, and reigning Conference USA Field Athlete of the Week,
Gabrielle Rains, took third in with a throw of 51.15m.
Senior
Tiffani Hernandez also had a big outing setting a school record in the javelin with a throw of 46.83m, surpassing Megan Home's previous mark of 45.69m at the FIU Felsberg Invitational in 2012. Sophomore
Terrisa Russell also set a new personal record in the discus with a throw of 50.06m.
On the men's side, senior
Chris Sullivan took second in the long jump with a distance of 7.20m, while junior
Daniel Neptune placed third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.58.
FIU now heads to Gainesville for the prestigious Pepsi Florida Relays, March 30-April 1. At the James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track.
