FIU Women’s Tennis Ranked No. 26 in Latest Oracle/ITA Rankings

MIAMI (March 7, 2017) – Having won seven-straight matches, the FIU women's tennis team (9-1) has moved up in this week's Oracle/ITA Women's Tennis Rankings to No. 26, announced on Tuesday. It marks the highest ranking for the Panthers since being ranked No. 26 during the 2002 season.

The Panthers are coming off a 2-0 weekend, defeating then-No. 46 UNLV, 5-2, and Colorado State, 4-0, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The win over CSU marked the fifth shutout for the Panthers this season. FIU's only loss on the year was to No. 1 Florida back on Jan. 29.

Sophomore Andrea Lazaro also moved up in this week's individual rankings, climbing six spots from No. 34 to No. 28. The native of Barcelona, Spain, helped the Panthers claim two road victories this past weekend as FIU improved to 5-1 away from the FIU Tennis Courts this season. She also improved her career record to 37-12 over two seasons at FIU, including an impressive 24-1 mark in dual matches.

The Panthers will host the Penn Quakers (4-5) on Wednesday, March 8. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. ET.
