IRVING, Texas (March 9, 2017) -- After shooting a pair of rounds under par and taking her fourth top-10 finish of the season, FIU senior golfer
Camila Serrano (Bogota, Colombia) was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.
In a field that included six ranked Division I programs and the number-two team in Division II, Serrano shot a 2-under 214 at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida, to end February and begin March. With her pair of under-par rounds she now has been better than par in 10 of the 17 competitive rounds.
The senior finished seventh in the tournament in number of pars and eighth in scoring on the Par-4 holes of the field and was one of just eight total players to finish under par in the windy conditions. For the season, Serrano leads the Panthers with a 72.41 scoring average. Her record is 398-50 for the year to date.
This is Serrano's third Player of the Week award this season, previously capturing the nod on October 5 and October 26. She now has four such career honors after winning on February 19, 2014.
FIU will be back in competition this weekend in the SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida at the Mark Bostic Golf Course in Gainesville, Florida. The 13-team field will play 36 holes on Saturday, March 11, before an 18-hole final day on Sunday, March 12.
