FIU Senior Dani Mowry Named to C-USA InTouch Credit Union All-Academic Team

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (May 10, 2017) -- FIU redshirt senior Dani Mowry (Cocoa, Florida / Space Coast HS) has been named to the 2017 Conference USA InTouch Credit Union All-Academic Team as voted on by the Media Relations contacts at each member institution.

Mowry, who graduated last year with a degree in Recreation and Sport Management, has gone back to complete her prerequisite courses in the Pre-Nursing program. She currently possesses a 3.91 grade point average in psychology, and intends to attend nursing school after her playing career.

After losing two full seasons due to different injuries, Mowry has stayed healthy the past two seasons, setting career high this season in at bats, runs, hits, doubles, home runs, RBI and the three major offensive averages (batting, slugging and on-base). She produced four game-winning RBI this season, including two from her career-high six home runs. She was one of four players in the league to drive in five runs in a single C-USA game this season, when she broke her own career mark at Charlotte on April 22.

Last season, Mowry played most of her season at third base, with time at second and the designated player role, but this year is the everyday starting left fielder as a player who cannot be left out of the batting order. In conference games only, she finished the season in a tie for sixth in the league with 18 RBI, as part of her 31 this season, fourth-most on the team.

Mowry and the FIU squad will begin their C-USA Championship as the second seed, playing at 3:30 p.m. Eastern against the winner of the bottom half of the single-elimination bracket from Wednesday, taking on either seventh-seeded North Texas, sixth-seeded Charlotte, or three-seed Louisiana Tech. FIU was 7-1 against that group of teams this season and Mowry batted .391, with two homers and nine RBI in those eight games.

The Panthers play Thursday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. against either Charlotte, North Texas or Louisiana Tech for their opening game as the number-two seed in the Conference USA Championships, from Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
