FIU's Cutliff and Hernandez Earn InTouch Credit Union C-USA T&F All-Academic Honors

MIAMI (May 24, 2017) – FIU women's track and field standouts Clarissa Cutliff and Tiffanni Hernandez have been named to the InTouch Credit Union Conference USA Women's Track and Field All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Nominees must have a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and must have used a year of eligibility for the indoor and outdoor seasons. Candidates should be of at least sophomore class standing.

Cutliff (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater H.S.), who boasts a 3.65 grade point average (GPA) in psychology, just won her second-straight high jump title (1.80m) at the Conference USA Championships in El Paso, Texas, on May 27, and qualified for the regionals with a mark of 1.82m, which ties the school record. That height, which she achieved in back-to-back meets at the Florida Relays on April 1 and at the University of South Florida on April 21, is the top mark in C-USA this season and is tied for 17th in the nation. This will be Cutliff's second appearance at an NCAA event this year. In February, Cutliff, the reigning C-USA indoor high jump champion, earned Second-Team All-America honors finishing 13th with a height of 1.76m at the NCAA Championships.

Hernandez (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School), a graduate student who has a 3.95 GPA in her master's classes in marketing, is coming off a third-place finish in the javelin at the C-USA Championships with a throw of 45.05m. She qualified for the regionals with a school-record mark of 46.83m at the University of Miami on March 25. Her qualifying mark is third-best in C-USA and tied for 69th in the nation.

Both Cutliff and Hernandez will compete in the NCAA East Regional Track and Field Prelims, May 25-27 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Hernandez will begin competition for the Panthers' record-breaking seven student-athlete contingent at the regionals, on May 25 at 4 p.m. in the first round of the javelin. Cutliff will take part in the high jump beginning on May 26 at 4:30 p.m.
