IRVING, Texas (May 8, 2017) -- For the second-straight week and league-leading fourth time this season, freshman pitcher Shannon Saile (Land O'Lakes, Florida / Land O'Lakes HS) has been selected as the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week. The selection was made by league officials ahead of this week's Conference USA Championships.
 
As she did last week, Saile, the defending C-USA Pitcher of the Week, posted two wins and a save as FIU swept Louisiana Tech to overtake the West-division-leading Lady Techsters for second place and the double bye at the tournament. Saile tossed her second-straight, series-opening one-hit shutout and came back in the second game of the doubleheader to strike out the side in the seventh for the save. Saturday, she held La Tech to one run on three hits and held La Tech, which came in as the number-two team in batting in C-USA, at .296, to a .087 batting average in 15 innings pitched. Saile allowed one earned run (for a .047 ERA) and struck out 20 LA Tech batters in the sweep. She lowered her conference-best ERA down to 1.46 after the weekend to end her first collegiate regular season. The Panthers dropped the team's league-leading ERA to 1.79 for the season.
 
Saile also tied the FIU record with her eighth shutout and, with her 21^st complete game of the year. She went from fifth to second all-time at FIU during the weekend with 215 season strikeouts. She leads the league with 8.5 strikeouts per seven innings.
 
In her last nine appearances, Saile won all seven starts (6-0 in C-USA), all complete games (three by shutout) and recorded two saves. She allowed just 14 hits and one earned run, striking out 62 hitters in that span. In those games, which includes wins against both division-leading teams, Marshall and LA Tech, she posted an ERA of 0.14 and an opponent batting average of .089. Saile leads all C-USA players with three weekly league awards.
 
Saile previously won the league's weekly pitching accolade on March 13, Mach 27 and May 1.
 
The Panthers will play next on Thursday at 5:30 Eastern against either Charlotte, North Texas or Louisiana Tech.
