MIAMI (June 8, 2017) -- Following the 2017 graduation ceremonies on campus, some of the members of the FIU women's basketball program, who began summer classes in the first session, teamed up with members of the men's squad to invite middle and high school students to campus for a college tour and question-and-answer session on the life and hard work of being a collegiate student-athlete.
 
That same week, basketball coaches and student-athletes went to EWF Stirrup Elementary to the fifth-grade class for career day, to have similar discussions about what earning and maintaining a scholarship means. The Panthers demonstrated passing and dribbling skills on the court and quizzed the elementary students on basketball-related questions for small prizes.
 
These are part of the community service component executed by members of the FIU athletics department on a regular basis in our local community.
