MIAMI (June 9, 2017) – FIU track and field standout
Chris Sullivan (Cocoa Beach, Fla./Cocoa Beach Senior H.S.) closed out his collegiate career on Friday night with a share of 19th-place in the high jump final in the NCAA Track and Field Championships at the University of Oregon's historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. With his finish, Sullivan earns Honorable Mention All-America honors.
Sullivan, a senior, reached a height of 2.08m. He missed his first two attempts at the opening height, 2.08m, however cleared the bar on what would have been his third and final attempt to move on. He went out on the second progression, 2.13m, which would have set a new school-record, on three-straight jumps.
Sullivan advanced to the NCAA Championships, finishing with a share of eighth-place in the NCAA East Region Prelims in Lexington, Kentucky, soaring over the bar at 2.10m. He holds the school-record with a leap of 2.12m at the University of Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational on April 8.
On Saturday, Sullivan's high-jumping teammate, sophomore Clarissa Cutliff (Orlando, Florida/Edgewater High School), will close out FIU 2016-17 athletic season when she competes for a national championship beginning at 6 p.m. (ET).
