MALIBU, CALIF. (Sept.21, 2017) – FIU senior Andrea Lazaro defeated Lidia Yanes of Austin Peay, 6-0, 6-2, in the first round of the 2017 Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu on Thursday.
In the second round on Friday, Lazaro will play against Sara Daavettila from North Carolina, who is seeded No. 8 in the tournament. Daavettila came out victorious in her first round match, winning 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 against Lucile Pothier.
Friday's match will mark the first time Lazaro and Daavettila play against each other.
In doubles play, Lazaro coupled with Old Dominion's Adam Moundir. The duo, seeded 10th in the draw, lost 6-4 against mixed couple Tsvetkov and Gillespie (Stony Brook / Drake) who were seeded 23. 
Friday's matches will begin at 1 p.m. Eastern.
