TAMPA, Fla. (Sept. 30, 2016) – The FIU women's tennis team won five out of six singles matches during the second day of the 2017 Bedford Cup from the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
In singles play, senior
Mina Markovic downed Brooke Milner (Stetson) with a tough 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win and sophomore
Ulyana Grib topped Miami's Daniela Rodlan 6-4, 6-2.
Senior
Nerma Caluk defeated Peele Danielle (Stetson) 6-3, 7-5 and junior
Gabriela Ferreira claimed the fourth singles win against Alehandra Mjos (UNF) 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.
In doubles play, Veskler and Minca won 6-4 against UCF's Emilia Granstrom and Lucie Prochazkova going into the tournament's final round. Grib and Markovic lost 6-2 against FGCU's Bridget Foster and Maja Omberg. Caluk and Ferreira lost against UNF's Lucia Montano and Florencia Rossi 6-4.
In the consolation draw, Veskler won 6-0, 6-1 against Maja Omberg (FGCU) and Minca lost against Gabby Castenada (FSU) 6-4, 6-2.
Action will resume on Sunday, October 1, with doubles play starting at 9 a.m.
