MIAMI (September 4, 2017) – For the second-straight week, FIU men's soccer standout
Santiago Patino (Orlando, Florida / Freedom) has been named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, for the week ending Sept. 3.
Over the weekend against New Jersey Institute of Technology (T, 2-2) and the College of Charleston (W, 3-2), Patino, the Preseason C-USA Offensive Player of the Year, recorded an assist and two goals.
Patino, a junior forward, assisted on the equalizing goal in the 73
rd minute on Friday night against NJIT. The match resulted in a 2-2 draw ending after 90-minutes of play due to lightning in the area.
During Sunday's match against Charleston, Patino scored the first goal of the day in the 25
th minute when he deked two defenders to get a clear open shot and connected to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. After the Cougars scored at the end of the first half, Patino answered with a header into the upper left corner putting FIU back in the lead. Sunday's two-goal performance was his fourth multi-goal game of his career.
Patino leads the team with nine points scored (4g, 1a) in four matches on the year.
The Panthers will end a three-match homestand when they return home on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. to open Conference USA play against Old Dominion.
