NORFOLK, Virginia (January 29, 2018) -- A success in the pool and in the classroom, the three-time defending Conference USA Champion FIU Swimming and Diving squad was named a Division I Scholar Team by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America today.
 
The team turned in a collective 3.37 grade-point average (GPA) in the fall semester of 2017, a slight tick up from the 3.35 posted last spring. This is the tenth-consecutive semester in which FIU has been honored as a team, and the 14^th time earning the recognition under Head Coach Randy Horner.
 
"These achievements in the classroom are a product of the hard work of the ladies and great support by the Student-Athlete Academic Center," said Horner. "This is what being a 'Student-Athlete' is all about."
 
A collective team GPA for the semester of 3.0 is required to make the list, which has 688 men's and women's teams across the NCAA's three divisions, NAIA and Junior Colleges.

"It is an honor to work with the FIU Swimming and Diving team," said Allison Riccobono, Academic Advisor for the squad at the SAAC. "They are truly an amazing group of ladies. To be able to receive their highest team GPA this past fall, while being in season, says a lot about their work ethic and determination. I look forward to seeing them finish the season and semester just as strong!"
 
The Panthers will finish the regular season with a dual meet at C-USA-rival Florida Atlantic, with the meet moved up an hour to start at 11 a.m.
