IRVING, Texas (January 31, 2018) -- For the second week in a row and third time this season, FIU swimming and diving swept this week's Conference USA Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards, the league announced Wednesday. Freshman swimmer
Stephanie Hussey (Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada) wins her first honor and is the second freshman to win the swimming award from FIU this season.
Rebecca Quesnel (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) won for the third time this season and 20
th for her career. The Panthers narrowly lost to South-Florida rival Florida Gulf Coast. 154-146.
Hussey took three of FIU's eight event victories at FGCU Saturday in Fort Myers. Twice, she posted the top time in a dual meet by a Conference USA swimmer this season, a 2:01.21 in the 200 Fly and a 2:03.49 in the 200 IM. Her 200 Fly time beat FGCU's NCAA qualifier at that event last season.
Â
Quesnel took the 1-meter springboard program with a 282.35, one of eight event winners in the dual meet with FGCU. It was an NCAA Zone-qualifying score. Quesnel also finished fourth in the 3-meter program with a 275.85, her third-best score of the season.
Freshman
Rachel Foord (Melbourne, Australia), redshirt sophomore
Brittany Haskell (London, Ontario, Canada) and sophomore
Brooke Bouchard (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) have all won the weekly award, giving FIU the nod in all but one week of the season. Foord won on back-to-back weeks, November 1 and 8, and again on January 10, and Bouchard took the honor on November 22. Haskell earned the honor on December 20 and January 17.
Â
Panthers junior swimmer
Naomi Ruele (Gaborone, Botswana) was the first FIU swimmer to capture the weekly award, winning on November 8. That was before freshman
Sara Gyertyanffy (Desenzano, Italy) was awarded the honor last week.
Â
The Panthers will finish the regular season with a dual meet at C-USA-rival Florida Atlantic, with the meet moved up an hour to start at 11 a.m.
