MIAMI (January 6, 2018) -- After a one-point loss at home Friday to open Conference USA play, FIU women's basketball continues its home weekend Sunday with a 2 p.m. tip against Marshall. FIU is 3-11overall, 0-1 in C-USA. Marshall enters Sunday's game 6-8 overall, 0-1 in C-USA.
FIU and Marshall both suffered losses to start conference play on Friday. Marshall shot a combined .176 in the second and fourth quarters in a Friday loss at Florida Atlantic, while FIU was outscored by a combined seven points in the second and fourth periods in a one-point loss to UTEP.
FIU could not hit a second-straight home buzzer-beater against UTEP in the loss Friday night. Four Panthers scored in double figures, led by 18 from sophomore
Alexis Gordon (Palm Bay, Florida / Covenant Christian), who hit her first six three-point attempts. UTEP outpaced FIU 42-16 in points in the paint in the loss.
Marshall lost by 20, 79-59, on Friday night at Florida Atlantic. The Owls outscored Marshall 40-0 in bench scoring. In a wacky game, Marshall led 14-0, but was outscored 28-6 in the second quarter en route to the loss. Shayna Gore tied for the game-high total of 20 points.
