MIAMI (Jan. 9, 2018) – Following a first-place finish in the weight throw at the season-opening Clemson University Orange & Purple Classic last weekend, FIU women's track and field standout
Terrisa Russell (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./South Broward) reaped the benefits of and impressive debut, earning the first Conference USA women's Field Athlete of the Week honor, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Russell took the top spot in the first meet of the season with a throw of 18.18m, against stiff competition that included the host Tigers and Florida, among others. Currently, Russell's throw is the second-best distance in the weight throw this season in C-USA, and is ranked 33rd in the nation after the opening weekend.
The FIU men's and women's indoor track & field teams will get back to work this weekend as they take part in back-to-back meets at UAB. On Friday, Jan. 12, the Panthers will compete in the UAB Blazer Invite and then in the UAB Vulcan Invite on Saturday, Jan. 13. Both meets will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex and will run all day.
