The Basics
The FIU men's and women's indoor track and field teams had two top-three finishes and three student-athletes qualify for the final in their respective events, during day one of the Conference USA Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.

Women's Highlights

Terrisa Russell (Fort Lauderdale, Florida/South Broward) got the Panthers off to a good start on Saturday taking second place in the weight throw with a toss of 20.12m.

Sherilene Gelderblom (Middelburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa) posted an impressive performance in her first Conference USA Indoor Championship appearance on Saturday. The South African distance and middle-distance runner placed third in the 5,000m in a time of 16:57.05.

Jada Roberson (Tampa, Florida/Hillsborough) posted the top time in the 60m with a 7.45, while also running the 200m in 24.42, to advance to the championship in both events on Sunday. Roberson will run in the 60m at 2:45 p.m. ET and 200m at 3:40 p.m.

Sydnee Wilkerson (Jacksonville, Florida/Ed White) who logged a time of 7.56. Â

Men's Highlights
- On the men's side,
Daniel Neptune (Miami, Florida/Belen Jesuit) qualified for the final in the in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.07. The men's 60m will take place 2:50 p.m. ET on Sunday.
