The Panthers split a two-game midweek series with Florida A&M. FIU won 7-2 Tuesday night and fell 8-4 on Wednesday.
The Gamecocks defeated UAB 4-2 in Birmingham on Tuesday.
FIU and JSU met to open the 2017 season in Miami. The Panthers won on Opening Night but lost the series to the Gamecocks. FIU leads the all-time series with JSU, 3-2. The teams first met in 1996.
FIU freshman catcher
Jose Garcia enters the weekend leading the team in hitting at .389 with four home runs and 11 RBI. Garcia has homered in his last four games, including a two-run shot against FAMU on Wednesday.
Allen is second on the Panthers with a .381 average and
Diandre Amion is at .345 with a team-leading five doubles.
Myrick has pitched nine scoreless innings in his two starts this season and is tied with
Nick MacDonald with a team-leading 14 strikeouts.
Jacksonville State is paced by catcher Nic Gaddis, who is hitting .400. First baseman Trent Simpson is the Gamecocks power threat with four home runs and nine RBI on the season.
Like Myrick, JSU Sunday starter Colton Pate has yet to give up a run this season in 11 innings of work.
