The Basics
- The No. 13-ranked FIU beach volleyball team began play in the Stetson University Hickory Point Lake Bash on Friday in Tavares, Florida, posting a 2-0 record on the first day of competition. The Panthers recorded a convincing 5-0 win over Jacksonville, and a 3-2 victory over New Mexico. With the wins on Saturday, FIU improves to 8-5 on the year. Â Â

- FIU made extremely quick work of in-state foe Jacksonville in the first match of the day on Friday, defeating the Dolphins, 5-0. The Panthers won all five matches against Jacksonville in two sets.

Federica Frasca and
Margherita Bianchin kept rolling, improving to 11-1 on the year, with a dominating 21-8, 21-8 win.

Taija Thomas stayed perfect, moving to 6-0, winning at the No. 5 position with a 21-12, 21-15 victory, while
Estefanie Bethancourt and
Natalia Giron improved to 8-4 on the year with a 21-8, 21-16, triumph at No. 4.

- Â Two tandems played their first matches together on Saturday. At No. 2,
Dorina Klinger and
Erika Zembyla teamed up for a 21-16, 21-19 win. At the No. 3 spot,
Lina Bernier and
Madison Besterfield recorded their first match win as a duo – and Besterfield's first career win – with a 22-20, 21-11 victory. Â

- Saturday was the first of two meetings between the Panthers and Dolphins. The two will also meet on March 24 at the Saint Leo Tournament in Saint Leo, Florida. FIU moves to 5-0 all-time against Jacksonville.
