The Basics
The FIU men's and women's track and field teams closed out its season-opening outdoor weekend on Saturday, at the University of Miami Hurricane Invitational, at UM's Cobb Stadium, recording an impressive showing. The Panthers placed five student-athletes in the top-five of their respective events, and 16 in the top-10.

Men's Highlights
- On the men's side,
Luares Tavares (Taunton, Massachusetts) recorded a first-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 14.81m. Joining him atop the leaders in the triple jump was teammate
Wisdom Offor (Hialeah, Florida/American) who took second with a jump of 14.15m.

- In the 800m,
Royer Baez (Reading, Pennsylvania) had a solid showing, placing second in a time of 1:57.22.

Christian Williams (Hialeah, Florida/American) and
Reed Service (Tampa, Florida/Riverview) posted top-10 finishes in the long jump on Saturday. Williams recorded a distance of 7.02m, while Service was right behind with a mark of 6.91m. Â

Daniel Neptune (Miami, Florida/Belen Jesuit) carried over his success from the indoor season to the outdoor, with a top-10 finish in the 110m hurdles, with a time of 14.75.

Patston Stewart (Lehigh Acres, Florida/Lehigh) closed out the top-10 individual finishers with a time of 21.48 in the 200m. Stewart also logged a time of 10.75 in the 100m

- Stewart, Service,
Husani Wilburgh (Coral Springs, Florida/Taravella), and Williams teamed up for a top-10 finish in the 4x100m relay with a time of 42.33.

Women's Highlights
- In women's action, Asha James led the way for FIU with a fourth-place finish in the javelin, with a throw of 43.29m. James paced a total of four throwers in the event, that finished in the top-10. Joining James was
Jasmine Banks (North Port, Florida/North Port) with a throw of 38.78m,
Dina Cosic (Belgrade, Serbia) with a 37.13m, and
Kayla Woulard (Oakland Park, Florida/Northeast) with a distance of 32.02m.
Samantha Ebanks (Miami, Florida/John A. Ferguson) fell just outside of the top-10 with a mark of 29.33m.

Jada Roberson (Tampa, Florida/Hillsborough) finished in the top-five of the 100m with a time of 11.83.

- Like the men's 4x100m relay team, the women's 4x100 team of Roberson, Woulard,
Sydnee Wilkerson (Jacksonville, Florida/Ed White), and
Clarissa Cutliff (Orlando, Florida/Edgewater), posted a top-10 finish in a time of 47.29.

- Shelby Ann Cutichneal (North Port, Florida/ North Port) also posted a 2:77.05 in the 800m.
