FIU hosts Old Dominion in a three-game set starting Friday

FIU hosts Old Dominion in a three-game Conference USA series beginning Friday from Infinity Insurance Park. First pitch for the series opener is at 7 p.m.
The series continues Saturday at 6 p.m. and concludes Sunday at 12 p.m.

Friday – ODU RHP Brett Smith (1-1, 4.84 ERA) vs. FIU LHP Logan Allen (3-1, 4.15 ERA)

Saturday – ODU RHP Morgan Maguire (2-1, 2.70 ERA) vs. FIU RHP Nick MacDonald (1-1, 4.19 ERA)

Sunday – ODU TBA vs. FIU RHP Tyler Myrick (1-1, 3.38 ERA)

The Panthers are coming off consecutive losses earlier this week against Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson. FIU opened Conference USA play last week at Charlotte where the Panthers won one of three games.

Currently, Juan Teixeira leads FIU in hitting with a .379 average. Teixeira has hit in nine of his last 10 games. During that stretch the sophomore has raised his average 118 points from .261 to .379. Teixeira is 18 for 37 (.486) in that span with three home runs and 13 RBI batting in either the eighth or ninth spot in the order.

Allen has helped FIU win four consecutive games in his last four starts. Allen has pitched 24 innings in his last four starts, allowed five earned runs, walked four and struck out 30.

Allen has a 1.88 ERA in his last four starts and he's recorded the win in three of those games. Allen leads the FIU pitching staff with 32 strikeouts.

Old Dominion lost two out of three games to Florida Atlantic last weekend in Norfolk, VA. It was also the Monarchs opening conference series. ODU won the finale of the series, 2-1.

Matt Schwarz leads the Monarchs in hitting with a .360 average. Culver Lamb, Vinnie Pasquantino and Will Morgan each have three home runs to pace ODU.

ODU is third in C-USA in hitting at .300. FIU is fifth at .295. The Panthers lead the league with 31 home runs and a .470 slugging percentage.

ODU won two of three games from FIU in Norfolk last season. The Monarchs lead the all-time series, 10-4.
