IRVING, Texas (April 17, 2018) – FIU track and field standout
Terrisa Russell (Fort Lauderdale, Florida/South Broward) was named the Conference USA Female Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Russell had a big day on Saturday at the University of Miami Twilight Meet in Coral Gables, finishing second in both the hammer throw (60.85m) and the discus (51.37m). In the hammer, Russell's throw of 60.85m marked a school record and is the second-best throw in Conference USA this season, and the 14th-best in the East Region. In addition, it is currently ranked 30th in the nation. In the discus, Russell again posted a second-place finish with a throw of 51.37m. That mark is also second in C-USA, 25th in the East Region, and 59th nationally.
Russell's honor marks the third-straight for a member of the FIU women's track and field team. Her teammate,
Clarissa Cutliff (Orlando, Florida/Edgewater), earned the honor the previous two weeks for her performance in the high jump.
The Panthers get back on the track this weekend as they travel to Atlanta, Georgia for the Georgia Tech Invitational, April 20-21.
