Shannon Saile (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) and outfielder
Jackie Schoff (Bradenton, Fla.) swept the Conference USA Pitcher and Player of the Week awards announced by the league Monday.
Saile earned C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time in 2018 after going 2-0 last week picking up wins over No. 4 Florida and Marshall. She finished with 14 strikeouts in 12 innings pitched while allowing just three earned runs. Saile earned her 10th win of the season striking out nine in a complete game shutout of No. 4 Florida. She allowed just three hits in handing the Gators just their fourth loss of the season. Saile picked up her 11th win of the season when she helped the Panthers clinch the series over Marshall in the rubber game on Saturday. She allowed just three hits in four innings pitched, one earned run and struck out three batters. On the season, the sophomore is now 11-7 with a 1.92 ERA. She has 173 strikeouts in 120 innings pitched, which ranks in the top five nationally.
Schoff was named C-USA Player of the Week after leading FIU to a 3-2 week while hitting .579. She went 11-of-19 with seven RBI including three doubles and four runs scored. She slugged .737 and had a .579 on-base percentage. Schoff went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the win over No. 4 Florida. Her two-run double in the second inning gave the Panthers a 3-0 edge. Schoff hit safely in all three games against Marshall. She finished with nine hits in the series including two doubles. She went 4-for-5 with two RBI in the final game of the series to help FIU clinch the series on the weekend. Schoff leads the Panthers on the season hitting .383. She has a team-high 51 hits, nine doubles and 22 runs scored.
FIU will travel to Fort Myers Wednesday for a doubleheader with Florida Gulf Coast. First pitch is set for 5 p.m., with a second game to follow at 7 p.m. The Panthers will return to C-USA play this weekend when they host Florida Atlantic Saturday and Sunday. The doubleheader on Saturday will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday's series finale is set for 1 p.m.
