FIU junior right-hander
Andres Nunez was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week along with Southern Miss right-hander Nick Sandlin for their outstanding performances on the mound last weekend.
Nunez pitched seven innings, allowed no earned runs, no walks and struck out a season-high nine batters in the 2-1 win over UTSA last Friday night in San Antonio.
In his last four starts, Nunez has been terrific. During that span Nunez has pitched 25 innings, allowed three earned runs and struck out 26. He is 3-0 in those four starts and FIU has won all four games.
Nunez is 4-2 on the season with a 3.77 ERA. The four wins ties him with freshman
Logan Allen for the team lead.
Sandlin pitched five shutout innings and struck out 12 in a win against Middle Tennessee.
FIU travels crosstown Wednesday to conclude its season series with Miami. The Panthers defeated the Hurricanes, 5-3, March 7 at FIU. First pitch Wednesday is at 6 p.m. from Mark Light Stadium.
FIU returns home to host Marshall in a three-game series beginning, Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. from Infinity Insurance Park.
