MIAMI (April 23, 2018) –The FIU beach volleyball tandem of Federica Frasca and Margherita Bianchin were named to the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Conference All-Tournament Team this past weekend after posting a 3-2 record in the conference's tournament in Emerson, Georgia, improving their record to 27-6 on the year. They are one of just four tandems nationwide at No. 1 that has 25-or-more wins this season.
 
The pair, currently ranked the No. 7 pair in the nation at the No. 1 spot by Collegebeachvb.com, won two of its three matches against tandems that are ranked in the top 45 of the Collegebeachvb.com poll. They defeated No. 41 Krissy Mummey and Katja Ehlers of the College of Charleston (21-13, 21-12) in the tournament opener, and No. 27 Devon May and Kenley Adams of UAB (21-14, 21-15) in the final match of pool play.
 
The tandem has won 20 of their last 25 matches on the year, and as a pairing, Bianchin and Frasca are 47-11 all-time, including 38-11 at No. 1.
 
No. 10 FIU turned in a 3-2 record this past weekend, at the CCSA Tourney, while advancing to the semifinals for the second-straight year. The Panthers currently hold a 23-10 record on the year and are one-win shy of equaling its record for wins in a season.
 
FIU remains almost unbeatable at the No. 1 and No. 5 positions. In addition to Frasca and Bianchin, five pairs - Erin Byrne/Mariana Dal Pozzo (4-1), Dal Pozzo/Taija Thomas (15-4), Dal Pozzo/Mariana DePaula Silva (0-1), Erin Byrne and Mackenzie Walker (1-0), and Estefani Bethancourt and Natalia Giron (5-2) - have combined for a record of 25-8 at No. 5. Bethancourt and Giron have also been impressive at the No. 4 position, boasting an impressive 17-7 record on the year. 
 
FIU now awaits its fate to see if it receives a bid to the NCAA Championships, May 4-6, in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The NCAA selection show will be held on April 29, at 7 p.m. live on NCAA.com.
