After a career week, FIU second baseman
Eddie Silva was named Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week.
Silva helped the Panthers to a 3-1 week by going 9 for 15 (.600) with four home runs, 12 RBI, two doubles, one triple and scoring seven runs.
Silva is currently hitting .324 and leads FIU with 12 home runs and 34 RBI.
To start the week, Silva went 2 for 5 with four RBI in FIU's 14-6 win over Miami. Silva hit a triple and a home run in the game as the Panthers won the crosstown series from the Hurricanes for the second consecutive year.
In the series opener against Marshall last Saturday, Silva was 4 for 5 with two home runs and two doubles. The redshirt junior drove in six runs in the game.
Silva was 2 for 2 in the middle game of the series against the Thundering Herd and finished the weekend going 1 for 3. The hit on Sunday was his 12
th home run of the season – a two-run shot that got the Panthers on the scoreboard en route to a 9-5 win.
Silva and the Panthers return to the diamond Tuesday night. FIU hosts Stetson at 7 p.m. from Infinity Insurance Park.
