The Basics
The FIU men's and women's track and field teams closed out its competition in the University of Miami Hurricane Alumni Meet in Coral Gables at Cobb Stadium with another solid showing on both the men's and women's sides. The Panthers recorded eight top five finishes and 14 in the top 10.Â

Women's Highlights

Gabrielle Rains (Sherwood Park, Alberta) equaled her best finish of the outdoor season, taking second in the discus with a throw of 51.22m.She also finished second at the USF Bulls Invitational on March 23, in Tampa. In addition, teammate
Timberly Molden (Stone Mountain, Georgia) also finished in the top five of the discus with a throw of 43.69m.
- In the hammer throw, two FIU competitors finished in the top 10, led by
Terrisa Russell (Fort Lauderdale, Florida/South Broward) and her fourth place finish after a mark of 56.87m. Joining Russell in the top 10 was
Trinavia Williams (Gainesville, Florida/Santa Fe) who recorded a throw of 50.35m.  Â

Samantha Ebanks (Miami, Florida/Ferguson) finished the heptathlon in the top five with a score of 4,557 points.Â

Men's Highlights
- On the men's side, the Panthers had a good showing in the long jump placing two performers in the top four.
Christian Williams (Hialeah, Florida/American) followed up his third-place finish in the high jump on Friday night with a third-place finish in the long jump on Saturday. Williams recorded a jump of 7.02m. Joining Williams in the top four was
Reed Service (Tampa, Florida/Riverview) who took fourth with a jump of 6.99m.Â

Luares Tavares (Taunton, Massachusetts) posted a third place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 14.42m

Daniel Areces (Miami, Florida/Christopher Columbus) had a solid performance in the steeplechase, finishing the event in 11:24.46. Saturday marked the first time that Areces took part in the daunting event.
