The Basics
The FIU women's track and field team took center stage during a light schedule on day two of the 2018 Conference USA Championships at Rice University's Wendel D. Ley Track in Houston, Texas. All five of the Panthers' student-athletes that competed on Friday placed in the top 10 of their respective events
 
Women's Highlights
- The Panthers put two competitors in the top five of the hammer throw, including the newly crowned C-USA Champion, 
Terrisa Russell (Fort Lauderdale, Florida/South Broward). Russell posted a school record and career-best throw of 62.48m, surpassing the previous school record – also held by Russell – set at the University of Miami Twilight Meet in Coral Gables, on April 14.
 
Joining Russell in the top five was 
Trinavia Williams (Gainesville, Florida/Santa Fe) with a personal-best throw of 54.64m. That surpasses her personal record of 51.34m set on March 16, at the Miami Hurricane Invitational.
 
- In the heptathlon, which concluded on Friday, FIU had two finish in the top 10. 
Kayla Woulard (Oakland Park, Florida/Northeast) logged 4,704 points, while teammate 
Samantha Ebanks (Miami, Florida/Ferguson) was one spot behind with 4,675.
 
- 
Sherilene Gelderblom (Middelburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa) rounded out the Panthers top 10 finishers, doing so in the 10,000m, with a time of 37:48.93.
 
Up Next
FIU will get back on the track for day three of the Conference USA Championships on Saturday. The field events will continue beginning at 4 p.m. followed by the prelims of the running events, starting at 6:30 p.m. On Sunday, the final day of competition, the schedule will run very much like Saturday, with the remainder of the field events, starting at 4 p.m. followed by the finals of the running events at 7 p.m.
