After tossing eight shutout innings in FIU's 8-4 win over Western Kentucky on Sunday, Panthers freshman left-hander
Logan Allen was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week.
Allen, who matched a career-high in innings pitched, limited the Hilltoppers to four hits. The left-hander allowed no runs, one walk and struck out seven to record his fifth win of the season. Allen retired the last 11 batters he faced.
The win Sunday clinched a berth for FIU in the Conference USA Tournament beginning May 23 in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Allen is now 5-5 with a 4.00 ERA in his first college season. He is second on the team with five wins behind junior right-hander
Andres Nunez, who is 6-2. Allen leads FIU with 81 strikeouts.
Before taking the mound Sunday, Allen went 7 for 10 with two doubles and a home run in the first two games of the series against WKU.
The C-USA weekly award is the first for Allen and the third of the season for the Panthers. Previously, Nunez (Apr. 23) won the C-USA Pitcher of the Week. Second baseman
Eddie Silva won the C-USA Hitter of the Week honor on April 30.
On deck, FIU closes the regular season schedule with a three-game series against Rice beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday from Infinity Insurance Park.
