Tyson Rodgers Named Director of Sports Information at FIU

MIAMI (May 17, 2018) – FIU Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations, Kerwin Lonzo, announced on Thursday that Tyson Rodgers has been named director of sports information. Rodgers will be primarily responsible for handling publicity for the women's basketball and softball teams, and assist with publicity for the football program. He will also assist with other fall sports.

"We are pleased to have Tyson join our staff at FIU," Lonzo said. "He has a good understanding of what it takes to maximize opportunities provided through digital and social media platforms as well as maintaining the relationships with traditional media outlets. His experiences will help us continue to develop a strategic communications plan that will benefit our athletic department and student-athletes."

Rodgers joins the athletics department at FIU, after serving as assistant director of athletics communications at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, since August of 2017. While at UNI, Rodgers handled communication responsibilities for the football, women's basketball, cross country and track programs at UNI.

Rodgers went to Northern Iowa from Mississippi State University where he served as an undergraduate student assistant and a graduate assistant. During his tenure in Starkville, Rodgers was the primary communications director for the Bulldogs' soccer (2015-2017), men's tennis (2015-2017) and men's golf (2012-2014) programs.

Between his undergraduate and post-graduate stints at MSU, Rodgers interned with the United States Olympic Committee in Colorado Springs, Colo., as a communications assistant for USA Volleyball in 2014.

A native of Tupelo, Miss., Rodgers holds a pair of degrees from Mississippi State, having earned an undergraduate degree in communications in 2014 and a master's degree in sport administration in 2017.
