Day One Highlights
-
Clarissa Cutliff was one of 11 competitors to clear 1.80m, but that was good enough to be one of the top 12 finishers to punch their ticket to the NCAA Championships at the University of Oregon's historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, June 6-9.
Â
Cutliff, the three-time defending Conference USA high jump champion, advances to the NCAA Championships for the second-consecutive season. Cutliff earned Second-Team All-America honors at the 2017 NCAA Championships. She won the 2018 C-USA title with a mark of 1.84m, just shy of her own school record of 1.85m set at the University of Miami Hurricane Collegiate Invitational on April 14. She was a Second-Team All-America selection at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Cutliff has been dominant in the event this season, having finished on the top of the podium in all five meets she has competed in during the outdoor campaign. Â
Â
- Joining Cutliff in the high jump was
Kenflore Atilus, making her first appearance in the NCAA East Regional Preliminaries. Atilus cleared 1.70m before going out at 1.75m.
Â
- Also taking part in her first NCAA Regional was
Asha James in the javelin. A former soccer player at FIU, James shook off the nerves to post her second-best throw of her short career – having competed in just seven meets during her freshman season – with a distance of 45.99m. Â
Â
Up Next
