The Basics
The FIU track and field contingent closed out their participation in the 2018 NCAA East Region Preliminaries at the University of South Florida Track & Field Stadium in Tampa, on Saturday, with its lone remaining participant,
Terrisa Russell (Fort Lauderdale, Florida/South Broward), taking part in the hammer throw. Russell came into the day looking to become the second Panther to advance to the NCAA Championships at the University of Oregon's historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, June 6-9. The top 12 in each event move on the NCAA Championships.
Clarissa Cutliff (Orlando, Florida/Edgewater) qualified for the Championships in the high jump on Thursday with a height of 1.80m.

Saturday's hammer throw was the second of two events that Russell competed in over the last two days. She also took part in the discus on Friday afternoon, recording a mark of 50.81m, falling just .11m shy of qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Â Â Â Â

Day Three Highlights
- Russell, seeded 12
th in the hammer throw, found herself in the final flight of the event on Saturday paired up with arguably the best throwers in the country. She closed out her season with a mark of 55.66m.
