MIAMI – Former FIU diver,
Rebecca Quesnel (Burlington, Ontario), is one of 14 recipients of the Conference USA Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship Award, the league announced on Wednesday.
Quesnel is a three-time C-USA Diver of the Year and First Team All-American, now ready to obtain her master's in architecture. She owned a 3.73 GPA in criminal justice with a minor in art. She was named FIU Athlete of the Year twice and became the Panthers' swimming and diving team captain in 2017-18.
In the pool, Quesnel was named Diver of the Meet at the 2018 Conference USA Swimming & Diving Championships for the second time in three years after taking gold in 1-Meter and Platform, while finishing second in the 3-Meter. She also advanced to her third NCAA Championships after helping FIU to its fourth-straight C-USA Championship. Quesnel turned in the top score (311.95) in the conference in Platform, second-best in 1-Meter (300.60) and third-best (305.55) in 3-Meter Diving. She earned C-USA Diver of the Week three times during the season and was named to the In-Touch Credit Union C-USA All-Academic Team.
This is the 10
th year the award has been named for Dr. Castañeda, who served Rice University for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed away in November 2008. The conference annually awards the $4,000 Postgraduate Scholarships to graduates as selected by the C-USA Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
