MIAMI (August 1, 2018) –
– Despite a lightning delay to begin practice, the FIU women's soccer team kicked off preseason training on Wednesday morning, as the Panthers prepare for their season opener against Stetson on Friday, August 17 at 7 p.m.
"We have a lot of new players and new faces this season," head coach
Sharolta Nonen said. "So, I wanted our team to just to get to know each other and get used to being on the field together. Today was just about getting more comfortable, getting their legs under them and getting acclimated with one another, tomorrow is really when the learning and improvement will start."
FIU will have an exciting roster this season that features a wealth of young talent. The Panthers will welcome 14 freshmen and 17 newcomers this fall as FIU gears up for Coach Nonen's second year at the helm.
Although lightning forced the Panthers to delay the start of their morning session, FIU was fortunate to get a full day's work in despite the weather.
"We have such a short window to train before the start of season, so we were very happy to get the time in today," Nonen said. "We were going to be out here rain or shine, minus the lightning of course, but it was nice that the weather finally cleared off toward the end of our practice."
FIU returns to the pitch on Thursday morning and again in the afternoon, as the Panthers continue their string of practices until the season opener at home against Stetson on Friday, August 17 at 7 p.m.
