FIU third baseman
Austin Shenton has been named D1 Baseball's Summer Breakout Hitter after his performance in the prestigious Cape Cod League.
Shenton, who played for the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League, was the Cape Cod championship series MVP as the Gatemen won the summer title.
Shenton hit .349 with four home runs and 30 RBI during the 2018 Cape Cod Baseball League regular season. The 30 RBI were second most in the Cape season.
In the Cape playoffs, Shenton hit .522 and drove in 12 runs over six postseason games.
Earlier this summer Shenton was named the 2018 Perfect Game/Rawlings Summer Collegiate Player of the Year.
Last season at FIU, Shenton hit .344 to lead the Panthers. The left-handed hitter belted nine home runs and had 29 RBI. Shenton added 11 doubles and led FIU in runs (49), hits (73), and total bases (111).
