MIAMI – FIU beach volleyball Head Coach
Rita Buck-Crockett announced on Friday the hiring of Carlos Galletti as assistant beach volleyball coach with the Panthers. Well known in the international beach volleyball community, Galletti has over twenty years of volleyball experience, coaching and developing the best professionals and youth beach players in the world and has extensive experience and success on the international stage.
"Carlos will bring a special flare to the Beach team," said Buck-Crockett. "His experience and knowledge is second to none. Our styles complement each other, and he's a winner. That's what we need to complete our team to get that National Championship. I am honored to have him be a part of FIU Beach Volleyball."
"I'm really happy to be part of the Panthers beach team," said Galletti. "I'm confident that my Olympic and international experience will contribute to take the program to the highest level. Rita and I are really excited with the athletes that are on board this season and success is definitely in our agenda."
Since 2013 Galletti has served as the head coach of the Turkish National Team, taking the men's team from a No. 100 world ranking in 2013 to a consistent member of the Top 25 in the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) world rankings.
From 2011-12, Galletti served as the supervisor for the Brazilian Women's National Team, overseeing the operation and preparations for the team as it took part in the 2012 London Olympics, a team that included the Olympic Bronze Medal pair of Juliana Silva and Larissa Franca.
Galletti also served as head coach of the Australian Women's National Team from 2006-09, where the pair of Natalie Cook and Tamsin Barnett won the Gold Medal at the Seoul FIVB World Tour in 2007 and finished fifth at the 2018 Beijing Olympics; and was the head coach of the Greece National Team from 2000-04, coaching the pair of Vasso Karadassiou and Efi Sfiry to a 2001 European Championship.
Galletti, who graduated in 1991 from Dom Bosco College in Brasilia, Brazil, with a degree in physical education, comes to FIU after coaching at the Development Volleyball Academy in Deerfield Beach, Florida.
Last season, the Panthers posted a 23-12 record, and a 7-3 mark in Coastal Collegiate Sports Association play, advancing to their first-ever NCAA Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama. FIU finished the year ranked No. 9 in the final AVCA poll, and No. 10 in the final DiG Magazine rankings.
