MIAMI – After a successful opening weekend, the FIU beach volleyball team, has moved to No. 9 in the week one American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and DiG Magazine Top 20 polls, announced this week. The Panthers came into the season ranked No. 10 in the preseason AVCA poll and No. 12 in the DiG Magazine rankings.

FIU opened the 2019 campaign in impressive fashion, as the Panthers posted a 4-0 record at the Stetson University Spring Fling, February 22-23, in DeLand, Florida. All four wins came by the way of 5-0 shutouts, including wins over No. 17 Stetson and No. 13 Georgia State. The hot start marks only the second time in school history the Panthers have opened the year at 4-0.

FIU now heads to the west coast for five duals, including four at the prestigious East Meets West Invitational in Manhattan Beach, California, March 9-10. The Panthers will begin play with a single dual against Concordia University, in Irvine, California, March 8, at 4 p.m. ET. After the meeting with the Eagles, FIU will take on four of the top six teams in the America Volleyball Coaches Association Preseason poll; USC (No. 2) and defending NCAA National Champion UCLA (No. 1) on March 9, and Hawaii (No. 6) and Pepperdine (No. 3) on March 10.
