DALLAS (March 11, 2019) – After an impressive performance in the circle this past week for FIU softball, senior Megan Kugelmann was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
 
The recognition for Kugelmann marks her first conference weekly award since winning three times as a freshman in 2016. The weekly conference honor is the first for any Panther this season.
 
"I'm so happy for Megan to receive this recognition from the conference," Interim Head Coach Heather Gelbard said. "Megan is an unselfish kid who works hard at her craft. Her leadership and consistent presence in the circle has been an asset for us all year, and she stepped up for her teammates this weekend and threw excellent games against tough competition."
 
Kugelmann tossed 18.1 stellar innings at the FAU/FIU Invitational and registered a pair of wins against North Dakota State and East Carolina. The senior inked a 0.38 ERA and allowed just two runs, one earned, on 12 hits, two walks and 13 strikeouts. She shined in a complete game versus East Carolina, hurling six punch outs and forcing one run on two hits in seven frames. Kugelmann garnered her first win on Friday with one run allowed through 5.1 innings. She wrapped up her weekend with a start against Long Island and pitched three hits without a run through five innings.
 
The Panthers posted a 3-2 record over the weekend, with FIU defeating North Dakota State (W/2-1), Stony Brook (W/3-0) and East Carolina (W/2-1), while falling to Purdue (L/3-6) and LIU-Brooklyn (L/0-1) on the weekend.

UP NEXT
The Panthers will host Notre Dame on Wednesday, March 13 at Felsberg Field. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. ET.
