MIAMI (March 19, 2019) – The FIU beach volleyball team continues to hold its position in both collegiate beach volleyball polls. This week the Panthers jumped one spot to No. 7 in the DiG Magazine Top 20, while standing firm at No. 8 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association rankings. FIU is currently 6-5 on the year, and 2-0 in Coastal Collegiate Sports Association play, having played eight of its 11 duals against teams that were ranked in the Top 20.

After splitting duals in last weekend's one-day FIU Invitational at Ft. Lauderdale, defeating No. 16 Florida Atlantic, 4-1, and dropping a 4-1 decision to No. 2 USC, the Panthers will get back to work with another one-day event in Boca Raton at the FAU Beach Bash on March 23. FIU will take on Tampa at 10 a.m. before closing out the day against North Alabama at 4 p.m.

Following Boca Raton, the Panthers will turn their attention to the prestigious Surf-N-Turf Classic, March 29-30, in which FIU will host for the seventh-straight year. The two-day event will feature nine teams that are either ranked or getting votes in this week's AVCA Top 20 poll, including five teams in the top 10 (No. 1 UCLA, No. 3 Florida State, No. 4 LSU, No. 8 FIU and No. 10 Stetson). In addition to being the top-ranked team in the country, UCLA is also the defending NCAA National Champions.

In addition to FIU, UCLA, Florida State, LSU and Stetson, other teams competing are: No. 16 Florida Atlantic, No. 17 Grand Canyon, No. 20 TCU, and Tulane who is receiving votes for the Top 20 poll.
