MIAMI (Sept. 30, 2019) – In this FIU Athletics weekly recap, the FIU men's soccer team continued to roll while the FIU swim and dive team took down Miami at home to close out the weekend.

Below is a brief recap of how each FIU team performed this past week.

Women's Golf
The FIU women's golf team opened its season in Idaho as the Panthers competed in the Coeur D' Alene Resort Collegiate Invite. The Panthers finished seventh in the field of 16 to close out the tourney. FIU will hit the road for Missouri this week as the Panthers take part in the Johnie Imes Invitational on Monday-Wednesday.

Men's Soccer
The FIU men's soccer team remained unbeaten at 7-0-2 as the Panthers earned a pair of wins over Stetson (2-0) and UAB (2-0). The Panthers were led by Daniel Gagliardi who posted back-to-back clean sheets to claim C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors. FIU will hit the road this Saturday as the Panthers travel to Akron for a 7 p.m. road matchup.

Swim & Dive
The Panthers split their opening weekend of competition as the FIU swim and dive squad dropped its season opener to Florida before taking care of Miami to cap the weekend. FIU clinched 10 of 16 event wins to secure the 169-131 victory over Miami. Freshman sensation Lamija Medosevic went on to earn stellar victories in all three of her events; 50 free (23.77), 100 free (51.50) and 200 free (1:51.50). The Panthers will host the TYR Fall Classic on Oct. 4-5, welcoming TCU, LSU, Florida Atlantic, Army, Pitt, Old Dominion, George Washington, Grand Canyon and Keiser.

Women's Soccer
The women's soccer team dropped a pair of C-USA matches at home last week, after losing to Charlotte and Marshall. The Panthers travel to Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech to continue league play this weekend.

Volleyball
FIU volleyball opened C-USA action with a pair of hard-fought losses as the Panthers fell to Florida Atlantic and Marshall on the road. FIU won both first sets of each match, but couldn't hold off the Owls or Herd to secure a win. Abbie Hughes earned a double-double in both matches, to earn her team-leading sixth of the season.

Cross Country
The FIU cross country squad saw a number of strong performances en route to a pair of third-place finishes at the UCF Invitational last Friday. On the women's side, Rahel Gebretsadik paced the Panthers for the second consecutive meet, running 22:57 in the 6K to take sixth place in a field of 41. For Gebretsadik, a junior, the time was a 46 second personal best. The men placed two runners in the top-10, led by a personal best performance from sophomore Eliseo Torres, who broke 26:00 for the first time as a Panther, finishing the 8K course in 25:57 for sixth place.
