MIAMI (Jan. 6, 2021) - FIU softball's
Chris Steiner-Wilcoxson was named an Extra Elite Top 100 Coach by Extra Inning Softball on Wednesday, ranking as the 48th-best coach in the country according to the publication.
Steiner-Wilcoxson won eight games in her first season with the Panthers, including victories over Power-5 foes Cal and Syracuse, prior to the season being cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The second-year head coach just wrapped up her first big recruiting class at FIU, with the group ranked top 50 in the nation according to Extra Inning Softball.
Steiner-Wilcoxson joined FIU after spending five seasons as head coach of the Alabama State softball program. Steiner-Wilcoxson has amassed over 500 career wins as a head coach, while winning an NAIA national title and three NCAA postseason berths.
A two-time team captain at Auburn University, Steiner-Wilcoxson was a three-year starter for the Tigers during Auburn's first three seasons in existence. She hit the first home run in Tigers' softball history and was selected to the Southeastern Conference All-Academic team twice. She led Auburn in home runs in 1997 and closed her playing career in 1999 by leading the team in at-bats, triples and stolen bases.
