MIAMI (Feb. 22, 2021) - FIU Athletics had 10 programs in action this past week, as the Panthers continue competition through the busiest part of the athletic calendar.

FIU's baseball and men's soccer team open their seasons offically, while women's tennis had its first home match in almost a year. Below is a recap of how each sport fared this past week.

Women's Golf
Carolina Andrade won the First Coast Classic last week, as the Panther shot under-par for the tournament. The performance nabbed her C-USA Golfer of the Week honors, marking the second time in the past three weeks she's earned the weekly award. The FIU women's golf team finished fourth overall. The Panthers will be back in action on March 11-13 as FIU travels to Mesa, Arizona, for the Arizona State Tournament.

Men's Soccer
The FIU men's soccer team earned a win over Florida Gulf Coast to open its 2021 spring slate last Wednesday, as the Panthers earned a 3-2 win over the Eagles at home. FIU fell in a tough 1-0 decision to visiting North Florida to cap the opening week of play. FIU is back in action on Saturday, March 6, at noon, as the Panthers host the FAU Owls.

Women's Soccer
The FIU women's soccer team fell to Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast last week in a pair of close decisions. The Panthers will be back in action on Thursday, March 4, as FIU travels to WKU.

Women's Basketball
Jesyka Burks-Wiley's squad split its road trip at Southern Miss last time out, as the Panthers earned a gusty overtime 59-58 win against the Golden Eagles to open the series. FIU has now won seven league games, which are the most ever in FIU's C-USA history for the women's basketball program. The Panthers close out its home C-USA slate on Feb. 26-27 as FIU welcomes WKU to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. Both games will be televised on CUSA.tv.

Men's Basketball
The FIU men's basketball team dropped a game to Southern Miss last Friday, before the Golden Eagles had to cancel Saturday's game due to COVID-19 related issues within USM's basketball team. FIU closes out the C-USA slate at WKU, as the Panthers travel to take on the Hilltoppers on Sunday, Feb. 28 and Monday, March 1. Both games will be televised on ESPN+.

Baseball
The FIU baseball team opened the 2021 season with a series win over UIC as the Panthers took two games from the Flames at home. Freshman Adrian Figueroa hit .500 over the weekend with five hits and three runs batted in. The Blue & Gold continues its homestand this weekend, as the Panthers host Miami (OH) on Feb. 26-28 for a four-game series. Sunday's series finale will air on CUSA.tv.

Softball
FIU closed out its time in Fort Myers with a win over Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday, after bouncing back from losses to UConn and Northern Illinois earlier in the weekend. Freshman Brooklynn Linneman pitched six innings and allowed just two runs in her first collegiate win in the circle. FIU travels to Clermont, Florida on Feb. 26-27, as the Panthers take on Kentucky, Stetson and New Mexico State.

Women's Tennis
FIU played its first match in almost a year at home this past Saturday, as the Panthers downed North Florida 5-2. FIU followed up Saturday's victory with a 7-0 sweep over Stetson on Monday morning. The Panthers were led by Kamila Umarova, who earned a pair of wins in singles and doubles action in her return to the lineup. FIU is idle until Wednesday, March 17, as the Panthers host visiting East Tennessee State. First serve is set for noon.

Women's Indoor Track & Field
The FIU women's indoor track & field team concluded the Conference USA Indoor Championships this past weekend, as the Panthers now turn their sights to the outdoor slate. Maika Cuenca earned silver in the pentathlon and Filippa Miller won bronze in the pole vault to highlight FIU's time in Birmingham.

Volleyball
