DALLAS (April 19, 2021) - After another sensational weekend at the plate, FIU softball's
Venessa Gallegos was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
The honor is the second for Gallegos this year, as she becomes the first Panther to win the weekly award twice in the same season since Stephanie Texeira in 2014.
Gallegos hit .750 for the weekend, with nine runs batted in for the Panthers. The second baseman had nine total hits, highlighted by a homer and a triple in the final game of the weekend series at Charlotte. Gallegos was a double-shy of hitting for the cycle in FIU's 11-8 win over the 49ers on Sunday, as she notched three hits and earned seven RBI.
