MIAMI – The FIU softball team have added pitcher/duo Brooke McNichols to its 2022 signing class, head coach
Mike Larabee announced on Tuesday.
McNichols, who hails from Chicago, Ill., is listed as the No. 30 pitcher/duo and No. 87 overall in the class of 2022, according to Extra Innings 2022 player rankings.
She played her prep ball at Marist High School in Chicago and was also a member of the Tennessee Mojo-Blue travel squad.
"Brooke is a crafty right-handed pitcher who can really spin the ball," Larabee said. "Her rise and changeup are her best pitches. She will be a great addition to our pitching staff. Brooke is also a dangerous hitter and helped lead nationally ranked Marist High School (Chicago, Illinois) to a state title."
During her junior season at Marist HS, McNichols posted a perfect 9-0 record in the circle to go along with a 1.70 earned run average over 61.2 innings. She fanned a total of 111 hitters and issued just 18 walks.
McNichols also saw time at second base and the outfield during her prep career.
The Panthers open the 2022 campaign on Friday, Feb. 11 vs. UNC Greensboro beginning at 3 p.m. ET at the FIU Softball Stadium.
