Softball’s Mike Meyers Elevated to Associate Head Coach

Meyers entering third season with Panthers

MIAMI – FIU softball coach Mike Meyers has been promoted to the title of Associate Head Coach, effective immediately, FIU head coach Mike Larabee announced on Friday.
 
Meyers, who will be entering his third season as a member of the Panthers' staff, has been pivotal in all areas of the game for FIU, providing insight and instruction on the hitting, defensive and baserunning facets of the game.  Meyers and Larabee also been members of the same coaching staff for a total of 13 seasons, including the upcoming 2024 campaign.
 
"Coach Meyers has been someone that I have been able to depend on for a good portion of my career and that familiarity has helped us foster a tremendous working relationship," Larabee said.  "Coach Meyers is an exceptional coach and teacher of the game, and I am thrilled to have him elevated to this position on our staff."
 
Meyers boasts 26 years of softball coaching experience and has previously partnered with Larabee at both the collegiate and high school levels, including four seasons (2016-19) as an assistant coach at Central Washington University.
 
"I am honored to be named Associate Head Coach of the FIU Panthers," Meyers said.  "First, I want to thank coach Larabee for having the trust and confidence in me to help build this program with him.  I also want to thank Scott Carr and Julie Berg for their commitment to FIU softball. Their support has allowed us to assemble an extremely talented group of student athletes. This is a very exciting time to be a part of FIU softball, and FIU athletics as a whole. We are all energized! Paws Up!"
 
During his time at Central Washington, Meyers helped guide the Wildcats to four consecutive conference titles (2016-19), a pair of regional appearances (2016, 2019) and one super regional (2016).
 
The pair also combined on the coaching staffs at  at both Kentlake High School (1997-01) and Kentridge High School (1996-97) in Washington state.
 
Meyers enjoyed a successful baseball playing career collegiately at Washington State and was honored with All-Pac-10 Conference recognition in 1986 and 1987.  He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 1987 Major League Baseball Draft.
 
Prior to his time at Washington State, Meyers played at Yakima Valley Community College and was selected as the Male Athlete of the Year in 1985 as well as an all-conference choice in 1984 and 1985.
 
Meyers also competed with Larabee on the Seattle SeaFirst men's major fastpitch team – which won the 1990 World Championship at the International Softball Congress (ISC) World Tournament.
 
Meyers also participated in the 1991 United States Olympic Sports Festival in men's fastpitch softball.
