BIRMINGHAM, Ala (February 16, 2023) - The FIU track and field program is set to compete at the 2023 Conference USA Championships, hosted by UAB in Birmingham, Alabama.

Last year's C-USA Indoor Championships saw a number of impressive performances from the Panthers, including a school record and silver medal in the pentathlon from Fabiola Declet, a new DMR school record (Lisa Adjouadi, Kaylen Clark, Leonarda Farkas, and Andrea Loizidou), a bronze from Kristin Lubeskie in the pole vault, and a FIU freshman record from Michaelle Valentin in the weight throw.  

The Panthers are capping off what has been a successful indoor campaign. Filippa Miller reset her school record in the indoor pole vault with a mark of 4.21m at Clemson, part of a notable season for Chris Sullivan's pole vault crew that has reached as high as number 10 in the USTFCCCA rankings. Andrea Loizidou set the second best FIU all-time indoor mark in the 3000 at the Bob Pollock Invite. Michaelle Valentin began the season with a weight throw performance that was third all-time in FIU indoor history, while freshman Celia Rifaterra also set a third-place mark in the FIU record books in the high jump. 

"We're ready to compete and see some good performances," said head coach Ryan Heberling. "Conference is always the culmination of a lot of hard work. Now it's time to execute."
