MIAMI – FIU softball has added one of the top pitchers in the junior college circuit signing Jordyn Ages as a member of its 2023 signing class, FIU head coach
Mike Larabee officially announced on Thursday.
Ages was honored as the 2023 North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) Pitcher of the Year and helped guide Grayson College (Texas) to the final four of the 2023 Division I Junior College World Series.
The right-handed hurler hails from Victoria, B.C., and ranked fifth among all pitchers in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) with 27 wins as part of an overall record in the circle of 27-6 in 2023.
She also compiled 191 strikeouts – which ranked as the 20th most among national leaders and her 195.0 innings pitched ranked as the sixth-highest total.
"We're excited to welcome Jordan to south Florida and join the Panther family," Larabee said. "Jordan is a great person with great talent. She can spin it up and down, with a phenomenal change up. With her experience, we expect Jordan to come in and make an immediate impact."
Prior to its No. 4 national finish at the 2023 NJCAA Softball Championships, Ages helped guide the Vikings to a No. 5 national ranking during the regular season and an overall record of 49-9 after falling to three-time defending national champion Florida Southwestern in the semifinals at the championship tournament.
During her freshman campaign at Grayson College, Ages was recognized as a first-team All-Conference and All-Region 5 North Team selection. She finished her rookie season at Grayson with 132 strikeouts over 97 innings.
Ages, who will join the Panthers' program as a junior in 2023, led Oak Bay Secondary School to four consecutive Western Canadian Championships during her high school career.
She has also flourished academically as she followed four consecutive years as an honor roll student in high school and followed by being named to the Dean's List at Grayson College as well as being selected to the NTJCAC Academic All-Conference squad as a sophomore.
Ages becomes the seventh member of FIU's 2023 signing class joining Janelle Martinez (C/OF – Ponce Puerto Rico), Natalie Burns (C/Bloomington, Ind.), Grace Helbling (P/1B/OF – Bedminster, Pa.), Zamya McBurrows (SS – Lake Wales, Fla.), Kally Meredith (OF – Kaukauna, Wis.) and Jewelie Vanderkous (P/2B – North Port, Fla.).
Each of the new student-athletes will join the Panthers' program beginning in Fall 2023.
