MIAMI — FIU's softball program continues to climb the D1Softball Mid-Major Rankings, moving up to 11th in the latest edition of the poll, as announced on Monday afternoon.
The Panthers are up to 11th following another outstanding weekend of play. FIU defeated Georgia Tech twice and went 3-2 overall in Gainesville, improving to 4-0 this season against ACC opponents. FIU is off to a 9-2 start, its best since the 2001 season, when the Panthers won 44 games overall, the second-most in program history. The Panthers are the top-ranked team from Conference USA (CUSA) in the mid-major poll and just one of two CUSA programs (Louisiana Tech, 23rd) to be ranked.
FIU first appeared in the poll last week after a 6-0 start to the season, entering the fray ranked 17th. The Panthers are back at home this weekend, hosting Florida A&M, Eastern Illinois and Incarnate Word, Feb. 20-22, for the Panther Invitational.
