Biography

All-Sun Belt Conference

 

2008 Indoors: Cleared 1.95 meters to finish 11th among collegians in the high jump at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational.

 

2007 Indoors: Tied teammate Adam Cole for the team’s top high jump of the season, both having leaped a 1.96 meter high jump at the Florida Intercollegiate which was good for third among collegians... Was the team’s top performer in the shot put with an 11th-place 9.73 meter toss at the Florida Intercollegiate... Was FIU’s second-best performer in the long jump, placing fourth among collegians at the Florida Intercollegiate with a distance of 6.36 meters... Competed in the 55 hurdles once, crossing the line in 8.71 for 32nd place at the Gator Invitational.

 

2006 Outdoors: Picked up his first all-conference honors with a runner-up finish in the high jump at the Sun Belt Conference Championships with a season-best performance of 6 feet, 6¾ inches... Also finished runner-up in his specialty at the Diet Pepsi Invitational and tied for fifth at the FSU Relays... Runner-up among collegians in the javelin and shot put at the Golden Knights Twilight.

 

2006 Indoors: Placed among the top five in the high jump three times, including a fifth-place finish at the Sun Belt Conference Championships to score for FIU... Leapt a season-best 6 feet, 6¾ inches at the Gator Invitational... At the Sun Belt meet, also scored for the Golden Panthers with a fifth-place showing in the heptathlon (4,421 points).

 

2005 Outdoors: posted top-five finishes in the high jump at the Gatorade Invitational and Golden Knights Twilight... Scored for FIU at the Sun Belt Conference Championships, placing sixth with a season-best leap of 6 feet, 6¾ inches.

 

2005 Indoors: picked up points for the Golden Panthers at the Sun Belt Conference Championships, placing sixth in the high jump with a season-best 6-foot, 6-inch performance... Tied for fourth at the Florida Intercollegiate... Also competed in the long jump, placing among the top-10 collegians at the Florida Intercollegiate.

 

Prep: Competed in basketball and track & field for four years, football for three and golf for two at Sunset, earning letters in all sports... Picked up multiple team MVP awards for both track and basketball... A third team all-county selection in track as a junior and a second-team pick as a senior... Among the top-three high jumpers in Dade County, breaking his own school record in the event three times... As a senior, finished runner-up in the high jump at the regional championships and sixth at the state meet... Track team won the district title in 2002 and 2003... Turned in personal-best performances of 6 feet, 6 inches in the high jump, 22 feet, 5 inches in the long jump and 43 feet, 7 inches in the triple... In basketball, was a third-team all-county honoree as a junior and senior... Led basketball team in scoring all four years.

 

Personal: Born Aaron Richard Nellhaus on September 6, 1985, in Queens, N.Y... Son of Evelyne Nellhaus... Has one brother, Sebastian (8)... Named to FIU’s Honor Roll in the fall of 2005... Recruited by several schools, including Florida State and American... Off the track, enjoys music and fishing... A sports management major, with aspirations to attend law school.
