Biography
A member of the Italian National Team, Giovannoni was the first Golden Panther to qualify for the NCAA Championships, placing 18th in the 200-yard breastroke with a school-record time of 2:14.38...owns or is part of four school records, including three individual events (100 breaststroke, 200 breastroke, 200 IM) and the 400 free relay...has earned a 4.0 GPA every semester at FIU.
2007-08: Recorded or was a part of the school’s top time in 11 different events... Earned top finishes seven times and in four different events... Set an FIU record in the 100 breastsroke (1:04.07) while earning a fourth place finish at the Sun Belt Conference championships (2/28/08-3//1/08)...Had the team’s four best times in the 100 breaststroke... Recorded the top finish in the 100 breaststroke in meets against Houston and Indian River CC (11/3/07), Florida State, Florida Gulf Coast and FAMU (1/12/08) and FAU (10/20/07)...Had the top six finishes for FIU in the 200 breaststroke...The top two times (2:14.80, 2:15.99) met the Women’s NCAA Qualifying B Standard... Placed first in the 200 breaststroke in a meet against FAU and Indian River CC in Boca Raton, Fla. (1/19/08)...Set a school record in the 200 individual medley (2:04.29) while finishing third at the Sun Belt Conference Championships (2/28/08-3//1/08)... 2006-07: Made program history as the first Golden Panther to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the 200 breaststroke...set school records on nine different occasions in the 100 breaststroke (four times), 200 breaststroke (four times) and 200 IM (once)...recorded 12 first-place finishes throughout the season across four different events...competed in 10 events throughout the season and posted the top times on the team in all five individual events (200 free, 500 free, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 200 IM)...At NCAA Championships (3/10/07): Placed 18th in the 200 breaststroke with a school-record 2:14.38 in Minneapolis, Minn...qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 breastroke with a school-record 2:14.81 at the James E. Martin Invitational (2/24/07)...At Sun Belt Championships (2/15-17/07): Posted three second-place finishes to earn all-conference honors in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 200 IM...runner-up in the 100 breaststroke with a school-record 1:04.34...runner-up in the 200 breastsroke (2:16.28) and 200 IM with another school-record time of 2:04.81...also swam the first leg of the record-setting 800 free relay that placed sixth in 7:53.39, and was the anchor leg of the sixth-place 400 free relay team (3:42.61)...helped the 400 medley relay to a season-best 3:57.65 and a fifth-place finish...During the season: Won the 200-yard freestyle event against Western Kentucky, Miami and Indian River CC...posted team’s season-best 200 free (1:55.85) against Western Kentucky (10/26/06)...won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.68) at the Indiana Invitational (11/19/06).
2005-06: Earned all-conference honors with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.65) at the Sun Belt Championships (2/18)...set a pair of FIU records at the Bulldog Invitational (2/25-26), in both the 100- (1:05.81) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.40)...cut nearly five seconds off her time in the 200 IM over the season...second leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay that was runner-up against New Orleans (1/26)...over the summer, competed in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events and nearly came away victorious at the Italian National Swimming Championships.
Prior to FIU: Member of the Italian National Swim Team...competed in the World Championships (2004), World Cup (2003) and the Mediterranean Games (2005)...swam for the club team N.C. Ghirlandina for 16 years.
